BSL Intent: DPP Students

Philip Southcote School hosts a Deaf Pupil Provision (DPP) where many of our Deaf students use British Sign Language (BSL) for education. All DPP students participate in BSL lessons, delivered by a qualified BSL Instructor and supported by staff with Signature BSL Level 6 qualifications. Our goal is to help DPP students achieve a BSL qualification through the Signature awarding body, with options for 101Y, Level 1, or Level 2, tailored to their needs and interests.

The DPP BSL Curriculum is designed to enable all students to reach their full potential through small group work, games, partner discussions, self-evaluation, and one-on-one tutorials with the Deaf instructor. We aim to foster a positive Deaf identity and provide communication skills that empower our students to engage with the thriving Deaf community as independent, confident adults.
